Finding the World’s Best Restaurants

There are dozens of restaurant directories on the Internet, but most of them only offer basic information like directions, type of food served, and whether or not they take VISA. If you're actually trying to find out what those restaurants are like, things get a bit tougher. That's what we're here for. We'll show you how to find the best restaurants around the world, from hundred-dollar cuisine in Paris to great pizza joints in your hometown. Dig in, and don't forget to tip! If you've only got the time to visit one site, make it Fodor's Restaurant Index. It's a comprehensive, easy-to-use guide to restaurants around the world, searchable by criteria including price and type of cuisine. Using it, we were able to find Bagatelle ("the best restaurant in Oslo"), Strings ("A preferred hangout for Denver's movers and shakers"), and dozens of other delicious-sounding restaurants. Almost as good a site is Zagat Survey, the online version of the legendary Zagat Guides. It only covers restaurants in the United States, but it offers reviews of more restaurants than Fodor's, and its reviews tend to be more comprehensive (including numerical ratings for such factors as food, decor, service, and cost). If you're just trying to find restaurants in the States, it's one of the best sites around. Your pals at NetGuide are partnered up with the other best U.S. restaurant finder, CuisineNet; click here to search its guide to restaurants in the 10 top cities in the United States. Just looking for the best? The Epicurious Essential Restaurant Guide gives you the rundown on the top 10 price-is-no-object restaurants in nine different cities in the United States and Britain. The reviews are written by professional travel writers and include information on the histories of the restaurants, specialty dishes, and much more. Also hosted on Epicurious is Bon Appetit's Restaurant Section, which offers complete restaurant guides to a dozen or so cities, as well as favorite recipes from top restaurants and a "Restaurant Roundtable" discussion forum. If you've got some time to dig, consider paying a visit to The Diners' Grapevine. It offers links to more than 9,000 restaurants around the world. Addresses and basic information are provided for all of them, and some are accompanied by detailed reviews as well. Finding your dream restaurant may take a bit more time here, but it may well be worth it.
