Google and the corporate environment
Google is preparing to announce a series of agreements with enterprise software vendors like Oracle, Cognos, Salesforce, SAS and others, to move the proverbial search capabilities of its tools to complex environments of business information systems. The idea, known for now as Google OneBox for Enterprise, would provide a powerful tool with which the employees of a company might seek in complex environments, which include calendars, agendas, applications and corporate databases, lists of commercial prospects or sensitive information, such as payroll, etc.. following the protocols defined access systems, and enjoying the search tool that has marked a before and after in Internet. The product would represent a strong foray of Google in the enterprise market, which offer a true package of software sold in the form of license, "in a box", something that previously only been explored using products such as its Search Appliance .
The companies, through these agreements, share APIs with Google, which might well include such corporate information spaces defined by them in the universe of information indexed by the search engine. For Google, going from a strategy of selling hardware that has not been particularly successful, selling a software product completely consistent with what we've always done and that therefore it is universally recognized, is a move that makes perfect sense the world. For companies that have signed agreements, to stay away from such a product is, given the pull of Google when it breaks into a particular terrreno all risk.
Google is a giant in a land where you live - and well - of a particular model, contextual advertising. One reason why this is so because users, what can we do not want to pay to do searches. But the corporate customer does pay for a tool, something that has been doing since the world began and tools, tools. Move your strength in an environment where people do not pay, another in which things have a specific price is undoubtedly an interesting and strategically flawless movement.
