What do I write in my e-mail?
- Subject
Write the name of the category that best describes your site. For example, if you are submitting a site to the SportsGuide, the subject should indicate the name of the sport. For the TravelGuide, the name of the destination. For the ShoppingGuide, the product(s) being marketed…. - Body
Write site review. Then include the URL. Finally, add a one to two sentence description of your site for our reviewers.
How do you determine which are the best?
When our reviewers and editors check out a site, they ask themselves these questions about the rating categories:
- Content
How in-depth is the content? How does it relate to similar/competitive sites? Is the content relevant to the point the site is making? Do the sources appear to be reliable or substandard? Is attention paid to details such as spelling, grammar and factual accuracy? Does the site have a wealth of external links related to the site’s topic? Is the content free of stale and outdated material? - Design
Is the design imaginative yet still user-friendly? Does it take advantage of the latest Internet technology? Are the photos well-scanned, and the graphics crisp? Do the links work? Will users be able to navigate in and out of sections smoothly, or will they become hopelessly lost? Is it easy to find information within the site? How unusual or memorable is the site? - Personality
Is the content original? Would any other author have come up with this material or presented it in the same way? Will users find a singular point of view? Is the voice appropriate to the subject? Is the site fun? Is the site’s look and feel appropriate to the subject and purpose of the site? Does the site promote online community discussion? Is its enthusiasm infectious?
How do these ratings come together in the overall rating?
We take all of the above criteria into account when determining whether a website is one of the top 10 or top 100 sites in that category. Some factors may outweigh others in our determination, depending on the site’s purpose. If a site exists primarily to impart information and does a good job at it, its design may be less important to its overall excellence. Design would, however, be the most important factor in a website offering design instruction.
